Our department is full of wonderful and engaging faculty, staff, and trainees who are being recognized on campus, in our community, and at the national level for their outstanding work and character. Each issue of the newsletter we will recognize awards and achievements of members of the department.
The Chair’s faculty awards for this year went to Dr. Joseph King who received the Patricia Norman Professionalism Award and Dr. Oscar Alam Mendez who received the John I. Lauria Resident Advocacy Award. Congratulations to these two wonderful faculty!
Congratulations to Josh Fuqua, Paige Panter, and Ransom Jones who were recently selected as the Sanderson, Off-Site, and Batson Lead CRNA positions respectively!
Congratulations to Dr. Chawla Latoya Mason who auditioned for and received confirmation that she was selected to be a performer in the Roomful of Pianos Event at NAMM (National Association of Music Makers) Meeting to be held in June 2022. She will be one of 30 pianists from around the world who will be performing on 30 pianos situated in one room at Anaheim Convention Center. She became aware of this event after last January where she was one of 100 pianists from around the world to be a part of the Worldful of Pianos virtual event. In light of the pandemic, they did not hold an in-person event last year. Instead, she was one of 100 pianists who met via Zoom to simultaneously perform Mozart's Rondo Alla Turca. Here are links to the sites that contain the video: https://www.roomfulofpianos.org and https://youtu.be/3ARVn55lRBU. She first appears at the ~48 second mark and then at various other intervals during the performance. Take the time to check it out!
Congratulations to Jonathan Vaughn, CRNA, DHA, for obtaining his Doctor of Health Administration degree and being selected as preceptor of the year by the University of Alabama-Birmingham and University of Southern Mississippi Nurse Anesthesiology Programs!
Ho! Ho! Ho! Congratulations to Dr. Jason “The Mayor” Johnson, who is so beloved on the Wiser OB unit that the nurses put his face on the Santa who delivered the Elf on a Shelf’s baby over the holidays!
